For This Child I Prayed 1 Samuel 1:27
Welcome to baby Emma’s website. Here we will keep you updated with her adventures. We hope you enjoy visiting and sharing our joy and excitement.
Emma Grace Shelton was born on April 26, 2005 at 7:22pm. She was 8lbs 1oz and was 22 inchs long. Emma was born with Pierre Robin Sequence. She was put into the NICU at Sarasota Memorial and then transported to All Children's Hospital at 7am on April 27, 2005. After two weeks of testing they finally decided that she needed surgery. Dr.Ruas was Emma's doctor and Mommy and Daddy just loved him. Emma had a Mandibular Distraction. They had to break Emma's jaw and pull it out 13 mm, then they put pins in her jaw. They would have to wait until Emma was ten months old to fix her cleft palate, because they wanted to make sure her jaw was healed.
On February 27, 2006 Emma had her second surgery to fix her cleft palate. Mommy got to hold Emma while they put her under so Dr. Ruas could start. She came out of surgery in pain. But that was to be expected. She slept the rest of the day and most of the night. When she woke up the next morning she was standing in her crib saying Ma Ma. We knew she was fine and ready to go home.
Emma is now 16 months old. She has blue eyes and blonde hair. I can't even begin to tell you how sweet she is. She is so affectionate. She loves her family. Emma had her 6 months post-op check up yesterday and they said they were so proud of her. She has done amazing. Sissy talks all the time. She tries to say everything you say. It is so cute. I have never seen a more prissy little girl than Emma. She is truly the light of our lives. We cannot imagine what our lives were like before she born. We love her more than words can say.
Wow! Emma is almost two years old. She is a healthy, happy, smart, and beautiful little Girl. She still amazes us everyday. From the time she gets up in the morning until the time she goes to sleep she is constantly talking to us. She thinks she is just one of the girls. Emma has started going to an at home daycare two mornings a week and she seems to love being with all the children. We are going to start swim class in a few weeks so she will be ready to go on the boat this summer. I can't believe how fast she is growing up, but we have been enjoying every minute of it. She is our "Little Miracle" and we love her so much.
